EQ

1980/1981

Hailing from the Capital District of NY, EQ toured extensively throughout NY, New England and Canada in 1980-1981.

Rising from the ashes of Kashmir, 3 of the 6 founding members of that group went on the hunt for a drummer and a lead vocalist. Thinking the need was for 2 separate people, there were a few false starts at the beginning of the band.

After finding an excellent lead singer/front person in Molly (2nd from right), it ultimately became apparent, with Penny Knight taking over vocals and the drumming duties, that a front person was no longer a need.

Being the "outside the box" thinkers they were, they posthumously released an LP called "Giving Up The Energy", which sold very well.

The remaining inventory currently resides in basements in the Northeast or has been converted into decorative clocks, wall-hangings or furniture/appliance-saving trivets.

Like moths to a flame, Penny, Richard and Tony would, in 1983, go on to form the Penny Knight Band.

Kashmir

Hailing from cities around the Capital District of NY, Kashmir played the New England/NY/Canada club circuit while refusing to play "Cocaine", "Free Bird" or anything else anyone even remotely wanted to hear, outside of the musicians that happened to come to our gigs on their off nights to listen to our Ambrosia, UK, ELP, Genesis, Yes, JoJo Gunne, Todd Rundgren's Utopia, Kansas and ... ok, we caved and played Styx and The Cars covers ... but none of their hits, dammit!

- Ted was so happy to be a member of Kashmir that, in this photo, he decided to choke on his own vomit. Ironically, he was not much of a Hendrix fan.

1983-1985: Popular Upstate NY cover band mixing in a few original tunes ...

2009-Present: Original music. We're older now and play less notes. It's better that way. Miles Davis thought so, but he's dead ... so where does that leave us?

We're together again and, more importantly, on speaking terms, after 25 years! Playing our unique original music, both electrically and in a mind-numbingly unplugged, acoustic-coffeehouse-hootenannyesque fashion.

We've added Bob "Buck The Kid" Boyer (a member during the final days of the band in 1984 and a former member, along with TJ, of "Hot Fun" in 1976 and long-time member of Glass Mountain and current member of http://www.newyorkplayers.com/ ).

Also "new" to the lineup is Tony "The Wease" Genevive (using "new" loosely ... he played drums and marimba on a few cuts and did a vocal duet with Penny on the EQ LP). A two time tornado survivor living in West Springfield MA, but originally hailing from the Albia section of Troy, Wease was the drummer in the Capital District jazz-rock fusion band "Suntreader", one of our favorite Capital District bands. Also, he was the long-time drummer for CT favorites "The Regulars", Boston faves "Laquidara" and was the other half of the "1981 NY Rhythm Section Mistake", along with TJ, of the Boston Metro-West area veterans, Circus.

Unfortunately, it appears original PKB keyboardist, Marty Fornal, has chosen not to partake, as he has not responded to our many pleas over the past few years. He may end up being proven the smartest of us all ...
